nberman@thesportsauthority.com | | Description | : | PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Determines when database and associated software upgrades are necessary; schedules and performs upgrades to databases. Sets up access privileges to databases and manages database elements including the creation, alteration, deletion and copying of schemas, databases, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, triggers and declarative integrity constraints. Creates logical storage units (tables, tablespaces), including the size and physical location, and maps database elements into these logical units. Works with operational resources that are in charge of backup utilities and hardware to plan and test backup and recovery procedures. Performs database recovery tasks if necessary. Works with the development and business groups and the Security Administrator to determine appropriate access for groups and individuals and appropriate privileges within the accessible databases. Monitors the use of disk space on an ongoing basis and takes actions to optimize use of space, optimize database access and storage and manage resource allocation. Monitors and tunes databases to applications as needed. Develops and maintains a comprehensive database software configuration database/ library of all supporting documentation and initiates corrective action to ensure all database servers meet or exceed processing requirements for performance and reliability. Provides recommendations into the upgrade paths based on business trends and user/workgroup processing requirements and support the help desk in processing user requests. Conducts software audits of database products for compliance with established standards, policies, configuration guidelines, and procedures. Knowledge of relational database management system model and administration tools. Participate on assigned projects Develop long-term Database strategies for the enterprise environment to stay current with technology and provide the required functionality to the organization Maintain proper documentation for all systems, processes and procedures Adhere to Change Control procedures and policy’s Document, coordinate and schedule all appropriate work in the development of assigned projects/tasks Work on enterprise-wide teams to support business unit and/or division initiatives Create and maintain documentation on the Open Systems Database environment Maintain product knowledge of all Oracle, SQL and MSSQL Database systems and supporting products and solutions Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of writing proposals and project plans This position carries an on-call pager/cell phone. | Experience | : | PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Five or more years Database administration in a large production environment Advanced skills with database administration tasks, i.e., database security, data access techniques, SQL, and database tuning and auditing. Five or more years working experience with DB/2, DB/400, Oracle, Sybase, or Informix databases. Advanced knowledge of UNIX, Microsoft Windows operating systems Advanced analytical and problem solving skills. Conceptual to proficient knowledge of PC hardware systems. Must be able to manage time and projects efficiently. Exceptional problem solving skills Production process and procedures orientation Functions effectively in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
